From there it is a 45-minute taxi ride to the resort of your choice. Treasure Cay is famous for its magnificent 3 mile long, untouched, white sand beach. National Geographics has rated this beach among the 10 best beaches in the Caribbean. For those seeking action, enjoy the numerous water sports, diving, tennis, explore the island by bicycle, boat or car, enjoy fishing, whether deep-sea, reef or fly fishing. Treasure Cay offers hotel rooms as well as many self-catering condos. This is a great destination for a family holiday, as well as honeymooners.
Treasure Cay
Originally named Sand Banks Cay and renamed Treasure Cay as a marketing tool, Treasure Cay is not a cay as such, but rather a peninsula connected to the mainland of Abaco. This sprawling resort town began as a large-scale real-estate development featuring all the amenities of a capital city, possessing its own marina, hotel, beach, golf-course and airstrip, and this continues to attract many interested second home owners and winter residents, as well as tourists, who come to Treasure Cay to enjoy, what National Geographic has described one of the 10 best beaches in The Caribbean.
The resort community of Treasure Cay, features 1-main condo-hotel property of The Bahama Beach Club and a wide selection of rental homes. The community around Treasure was mainly based around the original development of the Treasure Cay Resort. Following the devastating destruction of Category 5 Hurricane Dorian in 2019, the resort was demolished and was ultimately sold to GreenPointe Holdings, a Jacksonville based real estate company with strong ties to Treasure Cay. They are currently working through plans and meeting with the relevant authorities to redevelop the Treasure Cay Community including a redevelopment of the marina, the 18-hole golf course along with sustainable and varied infrastructure upgrades with 2027 being the current target for the reopening of the golf-course.
