Andros | _ | | _ | | | Remote Mangrove Cay is sandwiched between two sea-green bights, separating it
from north and south Andros and creating an island of black coral shorelines,
gleaming deserted beaches, and dense pine forests. Moxey Town, known locally
as Little Harbour, rests on the northeast corner in a coconut grove. Pink
piles of conch shells and mounds of porous sponges dot the small harbor of
this commercial fishing and sponging community. Anglers come on a mission, in
search of giant bonefish on flats called "the promised land" and "land of the
giants." A five-minute boat ride takes fly-fishers to Gibson Cay to wade hard
sand flats sprinkled with starfish. | | | _ | | _ | | | Andros Island is considered by most to be "The Bonefish Capital of The
Bahamas" and few would argue that statement. Andros is a series of islands,
connected by canals called "bights". It is the largest island in The Bahamas
and attracts divers, fishing, and eco tourism enthusiasts. It is also one of
the biggest unexplored tracts of land in the Western Hemisphere. The main
villages in North Andros are Fresh Creek, Nicholl's Town & Red Bays. Easily
accessible by boat and plane Andros is a "sleeping giant" with enormous
potential as a unique vacation destination. | | | _ | | _ | | | Less the 200 miles from cosmopolitan Miami, yet hundreds of years removed from
everyday life. South Andros is a collection of pristine natural treasures;
including the third largest barrier reef in the world, mangrove ecosystems,
deserted beaches, legendary Blue Holes, and more. A Haven of seclusion and
outdoor recreation awaits the traveler visiting South Andros. Preferred
Airport is Congo Town (TZN). | | | | | | |
