LOCATION:

This charming family operated resort village of 15 cottages and villas is located on remote Cat Island, one of the more underdeveloped Out Islands in the Bahamas, a short 5-minute drive from The Bight Airport in Cat Island. The property is spread out along a long private beach with great views of the sunsets. The staff is very friendly and casual and provide for a very relaxed atmosphere.

ROOM FEATURES:

All units are constructed of native stone and tile, feature open patios which overlook the sea, with sliding glass doors, overhead fans and large windows.
The cottages have garden/shower, queen size bed, walk in closet, coffee maker & small refrigerator, tile floors, overhead fans, air-conditioning, sliding glass doors, seaside terrace & tropical garden, (No TV or phones in the rooms).
Maximum occupancy is 2 persons.
The 2-bedroom villas have 2 queen-size beds, living and dining room, fully equipped kitchen, garden shower, beachfront terrace, stone or tile floors, sliding glass doors, overhead fans, air-conditioned master bedroom only and tropical gardens.
Maximum occupancy is 4 persons. (No TV or phones in the villas)

In Room amenities consist of a daily supply of Tea & Coffee, Gilchrest and Soames bathroom accessories. Additional amenities for your comfort, beach towels, Lounge Chairs, beach umbrellas and a water float are provided by the hotel.

HOTEL FEATURES:

Fernandez Bay Village features a restaurant with an indoor/outdoor dining area. The restaurant serves a buffet breakfast of hard boiled eggs, an assortment of breads and rolls, cheese, local fruits, cereal, yogurt, bacon, sausage, and daily specials - banana pancakes, cinnamon french toast or eggs benedict on Sundays. Lunch is a lighter fare, consisting of heavenly sandwiches prepared on fresh baked Bahamian bread, salads and more. Dinners at Fernandez Bay Village have such a reputation for taste and ambiance, they attract boaters and private pilots from throughout The Bahamas and South Florida. Served buffet style (Bahamian and Continental Cuisine) on the beach patio under the stars, guests come early to mix and mingle at the Tiki bar, to sample island hors d'oeuvres; conch fritters, grilled keilbasa or a lobster dip, followed by dinner (a meat and a seafood, rice or potatoes, vegetable, green salad and homemade rolls), and then comes dessert and decaf coffee.
Fernandez Bay Village also features a grocery/souvenir store, Library, Game room, children's play ground and baby-sitting services on request. Outside at the Tiki Bar guests gather to socialize and enjoy pre-dinner drinks and appetizers. MAP (Breakfast and Dinner) is $65.00 per day per adult and $47.00 per child, age 3-10y. FAP (Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner) is $77.00 per person per day and $58.00 per child. 15% service charge is already included. Please advise at time of room reservation, if you would like to include a meal plan. Prices are subject to change without notice.

WHAT-TO-DO:

Boat, car ($85.00) and bicycle ($7.00) rentals are available with the assistance of the hotel. Scuba diving is available at either Greenwood Inn or Hawks Nest. Bone fishing is available from the hotel at additional charge with prior notification. Snorkelling equipment (limited amount) and kayaks are available at no additional cost, and can be used to explore the vast mangrove creek area surrounding a portion of the property. Guided snorkel trips are $25.00 per person.

HELPFUL HINTS:

Fernandez Bay Village offers quiet secluded accommodations, for the enjoyment of those seeking rest and relaxation with no contact with the outside world. There are no TV's or telephones in the cottages or villas.
The property works on a Honour System, meaning no cash changes hands except on checkout.

There are no commercial banks on Cat Island; however the hotel accepts VISA, MC, AMEX cards, Travellers Checks and cash. Prebooking of a meal plan is suggested unless you have rented a car for your stay and plan on doing some exploring.

Children under 16 stay free, if their parents have booked the villa category. A maximum of 4 people are allowed in the villa category, and a maximum of 2 people are allowed in the cottage categories.

Air transportation between Nassau and The Bight Cat Island is available daily with a combination of Cat Island Air and Bahamasair. Inter-island charters can be arranged, but are generally around $750.00 one-way for a 5-seater plane. Services between Ft. Lauderdale and Cat Island (The Bight Airport) can be arranged with Continental Airlines/Gulfstream Airlines or with Lynx Air for approximately $385.00 per person round trip.

PRACTICAL INFORMATION:

Climate: Average temperature in the summer is 91 Fahrenheit , and in the mid to upper 70's at night. Winter is high 87 and low 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Evenings in the winter can be cool so pack a light sweater. Days are normally sunny and warm.

BANKING:

There are no commercial banks operating on Cat Island so it is advisable to bring some cash to be used when touring the island. At Fernandez Bay Village VISA, MasterCard, AMEX, traveller's checks and cash are accepted. Small change is not readily available.

ELECTRICITY:

In the Bahamas the electricity is 120V, the same as in the USA.

MEDICAL SERVICES:

There is a clinic nearby. If you have a sensitive medical condition it is advisable to bring plenty of your own medication.

PHONE/FAX SERVICE:

There are no phones or computer access in any of the villas or cottages.
Phone calls, faxes and internet conncetion are available at the front desk or in the clubhouse/bar only. Complimentary and wireless internet access.

SHOPPING:

There are a few local straw shops and small grocery stores located within biking distance from Fernandez Bay Village. The clubhouse has a very nice boutique with tee shirts, maps, mugs, books, clothes, etc.

NIGHTLIFE:

Some week-ends at the Sailing club you can dance to a DJ or hope for a chance to hear a rake and scrape band when they are performing. Nightly bonfires and the art of conversation are enjoyed at the Fernandez Bay Tiki-bar, sometimes accompanied by a singer/guitarist.

AIRPORT TRANSFERS:

Taxi cabs are available for transportation from the New Bight airport to Fernandez bay Village. It is a 5 minute ride and costs $4.00 per person.
